Got Mail?

Happy Valentine's Day creative friends!  This week, I was a guest blogger for Spellbinders and this is the lil' project that I made.

We are starting a new tradition in the Overby home and I wanted to share with all of you because it's super cute, easy and a lot of fun.

I found this adorable white mail box and thought to myself, how cute would that be covered in white heart doilies?  And then I thought, how fun it would be to make some simple, small Valentine's cards and ask my family if they would like to write notes of encouragement to one another.  So starting Feb. 1st and going all the way to Feb. 14th, we are going to stuff this box with nice things to say about one another and have fun checking the mail box along the way.

When I thought about decorating this mailbox, I instantly thought of Spellbinders Lace Hearts.  It is truly one of my most favorite die templates.  I *heart* doilies so it worked perfect for me.

In order to create a doily, I used washi tape to adhere a smaller Lacey Heart to a larger one.  I cut the heart out of white adhesive cardstock so that it would be ready to adhere to the mailbox. After adding 6 or 7 hearts, I was ready to create some fun, little note cards.

I began by folding a piece of Kraft cardstock.  Next I placed a Modern Stationary die template #2 (#1 being the smallest) on the folded paper so that the edge was off the end of the paper.  This way a fold will be created when cut.

Once the card base was created, I wanted to add an embossed element using a new M-bossibilities folder.  What I love about these is that you can take the entire design from the folder or just a part of it.  To create this look, I cut out another single die cut from Modern Stationary #2 from the same Kraft cardstock.  I taped the die cut in the spot where I wanted to the design.  After embossing it, I cut it the desired width and adhered it right on to my card base.  I covered up the seam with a bit of twine.

Next, I stamped a small sentiment in the bottom corner.  To add a few whimsical hearts, I cut red cardstock and dictionary paper with the same Lace Heart die template but used the negative piece from the middle.

To adhere the dictionary paper heart, I used a foam square to pop it up.

I repeated these steps several times and plan to make more so that we can have some fun note cards ready to go in February.  To mix things up a bit, I will use different M-bossibilities folders and change the sentiment slightly.

Hope this has inspired you to spread a little love in your home as well!
