We've just completed a very full day of the most amazing event ever! The four of us had such a fun and very chatty 10 1/2 hour trip down. We got up early, anxiously waiting for the big day to begin. Angela did a fantastic job planning out this Fisk-a-friendzy. There were fun surprises around every corner. The biggest surprise to me was when we went on our train ride!
We are in the heart of Virginia City and we had 'real live' old west cowboys on our chartered train. They were a hoot and really played up their rolls. At one point, the train stopped and we all looked out the window at an authentic lookin' noose that was staged on the hill outside the train. One of the cowboys grabbed my arm and shouted to everyone that 'them cowboys had picked someone to go hang.' They dragged me off the train and proceeded to play out this skit about how and why they needed to hang me. Everyone got off the train for the big event and then Suzanne (from Fiskars TV) stepped in saying that she was there to protect the fiskateers, after all, they are so important to the community. She then had some words to say about me personally and pulled out these 3 feet tall scissors! They are HUGE! Giant scissors that really cut! My name and new title 'Fiskateer of the Year' was engraved on them. I was also presented with a stamp that says 'created by Julie Overby, Fiskateer of the year 2008.' I was just speechless!
It was so neat to have Stephanie (Fisakateer legend) and Suzanne there. Of course, it was especially fun to have my good buddies there who actually stood by as the gentlemen continued in a shoot out (skit) and then took me up for a hanging! Angela helped cut me free with my new, gigantic scissors so all was good. LOL!
It was so fun seeing some the N50 girls who I'd gotten to know in Texas last year when Fiskars sent 50 of us to Texas where they spoiled us rotten. At this event there were 100 of us and of course we were all terribly spoiled again. I love how Fiskars is so supportive of their crafting community. A truly amazing company.
Ready to see some photos? These are not from my camera. I will share more from the crop when I get home. These are just of the hanging...I mean presentation.
So, I had to climb up this hill in front of 100 people with these strange cowboys and my good friends Lucy, Kris and Jodi just stood around and watched. **gasp**
I had no choice but to tie them up to tracks! LOL!
All kidding aside, I'm completely honored to accept the title of Fiskateer of the year 2008. This has been a weekend I'll never forget!
